Huntsman and whipper-in to stand trial for illegal hunting

Matthew Ramsden, joint master and huntsman of the Duke of Beaufort’s Hunt, and the hunt’s second whipper-in Rhys Matcham appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ on 11/05/2022 charged with hunting a wild mammal with a dog contrary to S1 Hunting Act 2004. The case relates to an alleged incident that took place in Brokenborough, near Malmesbury, on 13/09/2021. They both pleaded not guilty and were remanded on unconditional bail. A case management hearing was heard on 25/05/2022 where the date of the 2 day trial was set. Trial date set for 08/12/2022 and 09/12/2022. There will be a case progression hearing on 22/08/2022.
